The People Speak: Women’s History Month Special! Talkaoke #21
We are celebrating the Women’s History Month with a special focus on the East London stories, in collaboration with East London Women’s Network and Alternative Arts. We hope you can join us at the MAKING SPACE across the way from our Aberfeldy Street studio or online! Talkaoke –is an interactive pop-up talk show, where you, the participants, set the agenda. Every last Thursday of the month we report live from the streets of Poplar and further afield via Zoom about all the matters local and global.
The East London Women’s Network is open to women across East London who are members of community, arts and cultural organisations, local women’s groups, and local women residents. The network is co-ordinated by Alternative Arts who also run Women’s History Month in East London. The aim to raise the profile of women, share ideas, explore current issues and build a strong network as a supportive resource, providing inspiration for creating a more equal society.
Find out more about Alternative Arts’ activities here.
MAKING SPACE on Aberfeldy Street builds on an immersive arts/culture/heritage programme, pioneered from next door at The Tommy Flowers Community Pub, now run by local residents. We offer workshops for local people to learn ceramics, glassmaking, music and photography.

How does Talkaoke work?
It’s simple: the Talkaoke host sits in the middle of a round table and you, the participants, sit at small tables close by. Each table has a mic and you are invited to talk about anything they like. Each discussion is a journey from one unexpected subject to another: it can be topical, funny, deep, surreal, and everything in between. The conversation will be visualised live by a digital illustrator! It’s a drop in – so feel free to stay for as long or as little as you can.
How can I join?
